1989 Force 125 HP, I just rebuilt engine and Im confused about the starter relay or solenoid cables routing. Please, can anyone tell me or send me a pic showing how the cables are hook up to the solenoid? Include the cable coming from the starter. There is also a small black box with a reset button on it. Thanks.

You're going to have to give an email address for anyone to send you a pic. That small black box in the vicinity of your solenoid is your circuit breaker. If it's in down position, you have a circuit.

My email is bayamon25@yahoo.com. Near the soleniod there is a circuit breaker, but I am talking about the black box with two screws and a white reset button. I am not good with electronics so if somebody can tell me how to route the cables hopefully I can get the motor started. Thanks.

The large wire from the + side of the battery pairs up with the smaller red wires on the solenoid. The second Larger red wire that goes to the starter gets its own post on the solenoid.

There should be a yellow wire that is hooked to one of the small posts..and a black that is hooked to the other. If you do not have the black wire..the soleniod grounds through the case.

TMD

So the large red wire from the starter and the black large wire from the battery post together?

The large black wire goes to the block.

NO WHERE NEAR THE RED WIRE.

TMD

My cables are definitely routed wrong. I will try the way you told me tomorrow. One more thing, the is a spot on the block with 2 other black cables, can I add the one from the battery to them?

Re: Starter relay or solenoid cables routing

Just my curiosity, I have known that on our boats and motors, the black wire is always ground, but what I have always wondered, is "WHY". On all other applications, the ground wire is always green. Does any one know why this ever came about??    :D :D :D :D

On the Chryslers, the green wire is for the choke.

Now I have all the wires hooked up correctly but motor still wont start. Does the solenoid make a clicking sound when turning key? I am suspecting that the slenoid is bad. I jumped the battery with my truck and still didnt do anything.

Yes..the solenoid should click. Check for 12 volts at the yellow wire on the solenoid, when the key is in the starting position.

TMD

I checked the yellow wire and did not get any reading. I jumped the solenoid and starter with a screwdriver and it worked (the engine turned). My friend is letting borrow his boats solenoid tomorrow so I can adjust it and run it. Now I have to order one. How much do they run?

Here is a bit of a recap..but more info that might help.

Look for 12 volts at the yellow wire on the soleniod. If none is found trace the yellow to the neutral safety switch and test for voltage there. If none is found..short the ign switch...red and yellow together.

TMD
