Starter/relay problem

I have a 2002 80hp 4-stroke yamaha outboard. I was cranking the other day and it was turning over fine, then suddenly just started clicking like someone had pulled the kill switch. Starter will not receive power, I connected jumper cables directly to the starter and it works when I turn the ignition. I replaced the starter relay with a used one and still does same thing. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Starter/relay problem

Battery cables are probably corroded. Take them off, both ends, scrub til shiny and reconnect. Worst offender is the battery ground cable connection to the engine block.

Good luck. :)

Re: Starter/relay problem

If you hook jumper cables to starter the it should turn over without using ignition, so not sure where you hooked cables
