Got out on the lake today for the first time this year and when I pulled the rope it did not engage. I did have the lower unit off to replace the water pump this winter but that all seems to be functioning properly. Not sure if there is something I could have done when doing this or if it is a completely un-related issue. Any help is greatly appreciated.

You'll probably need to unbolt the recoil starter assy for inspection. Likely the old grease has hardened and is not letting the starter pawl(s) engage the flywheel.

A little clean and a re-lube usually gets 'em going again. I've attached a diagram of the recoil assy for your viewing pleasure.

Thank you, I will give it a go when I get home from work. What works best to clean?
