Re: starter/selonoid

there are usually 2 solenoids in a boat. The "slave" and the "main" that is on the starter.
You are referring to??????
Most cases if the main solenoiod needs work the starter SHOULD ALSO BE CHECKED

Best to bring your starter to a rewind shop and have them repair it. The auto parts starter doesn't have the "spark" arrestor that marine has...at least that's what I was told when I had my starter re-wound.

Like BT Doctur says, there is more than one solenoid. Click here for a good check list before you go replacing anything.

Re: starter/selonoid

The test light link/thread was old and didn't think I would get a reply posting a question there. So, I have the volvo relay type and a meter instead of test light. I assumed you disconnect relay plug because there isn't another way to make contact and check for voltage. I tested the female end of the plug and got 27 volts on A but zero on B and nothing clicked. That combination of results was not listed of what to do next or what it meant. My problem is the strong click when turning ignition but no other results/motion.? anyone?

No Way you can get 27 Volts in a 12 volt system...

95Monterey you might want to start a new thread of your own.

Re: starter/selonoid

If you disconnect that relay you are basically reading from the positive lead straight off the starter selonoid...why wouldn't you read 24-27volts? anyway, I will start another thread. thanks.
