as for the sloenoid It will probably work just fine. I have a question.. If someone on this forum recommends using a automotive starter on a boat, and that boat BLOWS UP, catchs fire whatever..Who should be responsible??
Never use automotive parts on an outboard or any other marine motor for that matter. Marine parts are specifically designed to not spark under any circumstances. Especially on an older merc that likes to get gas everywhere under the cowl. Spark make motor go boom!
It was purely a hypathetical question.. If I tell you to put a part on thats not safe, you do it, and your boat explodes and kills you ... who is to blame? Me for recommending it or you for following my advise? Its just a hypathetical question. Take from it what you will................
Falker: $70 difference??? You need to check with another merc dealer. I bought an oem solenoid last week for less than $50 (Canadian bucks and gst and pst included)
JDK, I'm in Canada as well so I'll call the dealer today...thanks.

Fouledplug, I found the source of the leak, loose pump screws, so hopefully all will be well.

Thanks for all your help and insight guys,
Falker
