Re: Starter/Solenoid Problem on 75 Eninrude 25hp

Start this process by disconnecting and thoroughly cleaning the battery cables (both ends)and the battery terminals. While doing that, check the terminal ends to make sure they are tight on the cable and that there is no inner corrosion. Bad connections will cause this problem. If that doesn't fix the problem connect a single jumper cable from the POS battery terminal directly to the starter. Be prepared for a spark and the starter will run. If it now appears normal the solenoid is probably bad. If the starter still turns slow, it probably has tight bearings, bad brushes, or both and is in need of rebuild. Your local auto electric shop (starter/alternator rebuilder) can do this for you.

i have already checked and done all that. i put new solenoid on it last year. it will not turn fast enough to engage the bendix on it. in process of checking it all did find a wire that was not put back on solenoid.

check battery cables for nicks. they deteriorate from the inside out.

found problem with the starter after a triple check. loose/bad conection on posititve wire on starter. but now have new problem.

hooked one wire up wrong on the electric choke and smoked it and wires. junked the eletric choke since i am running motor as a tiller steer now and not stick steer. replacing all the wires and didnt take good notes. how to hook the wires to the solenoid? got the hot wire from battery and to starter and thought had wire to push button starter right but no go..
