i have a 1975 Evinrude 25hp. i melted the wiring going to the solenoid and electric choke. the electric choke is toast so i chunked it.

my solenoid has 4 posts on it. 2 big ones that go to battery and starter. the too small one?? marked I and S.. i have just a standard push button started switch and kill switch. i have five wires pulled to the motor from my "panel". 2 red 2 blue and 1 yellow (all i could find a store).

Re: Starter Solenoid Wiring

Connect the I side to the switch or in your case the starter button. The S side should go to ground through a safety switch that prevents your from starting the motor when it is raised. If you don't have one, just connect it to ground.

Re: Starter Solenoid Wiring

If I'm not mistaken, the other side of the solenoid goes through a safety switch that prevents starting in gear and shouldn't be bypassed.
