I have a 1972 slickcraft w/302 ford

I just bought a new starter solenoid. It has four post comming out of it. Two look like they are made of copper and are on the side of the solenoid. The other two are made of steel I guess because they are silver. Anyway I know that a cable goes from the common on the batter switch to one of the copper post but which one? Does it even matter? I also know that the thing has to be grounded but from where and to what? I also know that the other copper one will be for the cable that connects to the starter. Now, Above the silver post there are letters I and S I'm guessing that these mean ignition and starter. If the wire that is labled I is ignition then does that mean it goes on the ignition switch where it says ignition............................

Today has not been a good day.:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

Re: starter solenoid wiring

Sounds like the same solenoid that's on mine. The large posts are pos. from the battery, and out to the starter. The small terminals are the ones that activate the solenoid. S should be from the start terminal on the key, and I is to the ignition coil. I'll see if I can find a pic for ya.

And just remember, it could allways be WORSE!!! You could have no boat at all! :D

Don, that is Seloc. Shame shame.

Yea, but I checked it over for mistakes before I posted it, and it was one I don't have to make my own picture of.
Is kind of a pain to have to look over everything they do, just to make sure it's right.

This one is right most of the charts and wiring diagrams are directly from the OEM manuals, so copyright has nothing to do with it. Especially on these older engines. Most of the problems come with their instructions on how to do things or omiting important steps in the procedures, along with lumping to many engines in one manual. All you get is general information on a LOT of engines, and nothing specific except the wiring diagrams and tuneup charts on any engines.
