I was out yesterday and ran into some trouble with sand bars on a new section of the river. Lots of starting, stopping and paddling.

Had a hard time starting it sometimes, it was turning very very slow. Others it was spinning fast.

New battery this year and it had just came off the charger. Doubting it is the problem, but I will charge it up again and check all connections.

Same thing happened to my truck, spun very slow when it was hot. Spun fast when cold, it was the starter's bushings that were wore out.

Same principles apply here?? Any advice?? Sure not an expert on my outboard??

Re: Starter Troubles

Probably, but check out all connections from the battery back first. You can also jump straight to the battery with cables to see how the starter spins without anyt other wiring or the solenoid involved.

Re: Starter Troubles

Good advice.

Where would I find the solenoid anyway??

Could the soleniod slow it down??

Re: Starter Troubles

Follow the cable from the starter motor...the other end is attached to the solenoid.

Unlikely the solenoid would slow it down...usually they either work or don't work. Bad connection from battery to solenoid to starter is what you're ruling out.
