I have a 75 horse and when you turn the key, the starter spins but won't jump up to spin the flywheel... sometimes it does and sometimes it don't... I have sprayed some cleaner on it and reoiled and it worked for a few cranks then stoped... What all could need replacing... new starter, solnoid... can you rebuild the starter.

Since you have already oiled the bendix drive on the starter it may be that the starter doesn't have enough ummph to engage the bendix drive. When you oiled the bendix was it operating smoothly? Check all your battery cable connections on both ends. Make sure the battery is fully charged. You could pull the starter and take it to an Auto Parts store. Most of them will test a starter motor for free.

I had the exact same problem on mine. I thought my battery was good, and I charged it just in case. Unfortunately, the battery itself was bad and I didnt know that until I bought another battery and hooked it up. As soon as I put a fresh new battery on it, she popped right like she is supposed to. I took my battery that I thought was good to the parts house locally, and they put it on the battery test machine and it came back needed charge, they charged it for 2 days and results were the same. Bad battery though the machine didnt specifically state it. The battery wouldnt hold a charge.

Oftentimes the problem you describe is due to a bad battery or bad connections. Use a voltmeter at the starter to see if you've got good juice.

Sweet ride. Kit or real Cobra? Just like a in a car, the cables could have internal corrosion even if they look good. If cleaning the connections doesn't help, I would try new cables.
