I just aquired a 19' boat with a 150 hp mercry 150 on it. I took it out today and it ran flawlessly. I came in to flush the motor on ears since it was ran in salt water but coudl not get the motot started, I go to turn the key and absolutely nothing happens (not even a clcik). It's like the battery isn't even hooked up. I know I've got solid connection since the trim on motor will go up and down. I do not know what to do. I've tried to clean the terminals on the battery but that doesn't seem to work either. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am totally new to Mercury outboards and outboards in general, Thanks in advance,

Just like a car you have a starter relay. If you can jumper the relay and it doesnt have power on the output side of the relay your relay is bad. If it has power and doesnt spin your starter brushes are probably toast. . Keep in mind you have a fuse located right over your starter relay that feeds the control set including the starter key. If its blown the key switch won't work.

As Wired has stated, The fuse is probably blown.

It seems as if my control box is pretty messed up. I had a buddy who is handy with boat comes over and disconnect the harness from the control box. He hooked some sort of button up to my motor and started it from there. He said my key ignition is borked and so is the choke seleniod. I guess I need to get a new control box but have no idea what ones will work with the motor. The motor is a 1989 Mercury 150. Any suggestions on what years and HP ranges will work with my motor?

serial number on my engine is ob105204 if that helps finding a set of controls that'll work with my motor.

Make sure your controls are in neutral....Check the neutral switch inside of the control unit.
