If you can figure out a way to transfer the ALL explosion arrester screens,covers,gaskets from the old starter to the new one i don't see any problems with the auto unit. I did a similar thing with an alternator a while back. The screens were the ONLY difference.
i also don't understand how fuel would leak out of a carb? the float bowl vents directly upwards of the venturies(of every carb i have seen). So if the float stuck it would only flood the motor.
