Starting a 87 60hp on the stand? (no control box)

I am restoring an old lobster skiff. I have the motor(60hp 3 cyl) off the boat and mounted on a stand. I need to rebuild the carbs and do some other maintenance. I would like to test run it on the stand without the control box before putting it back on the boat . Other than a starter switch, anything else I need to do electrically to test run it on the stand?

You must have a battery securely connected. Use battery cables, not jumper cables because jumpers are not "securely connected". Failure to do so will blow the alternator rectifier. Ground the powerhead to battery - and connect the solenoid to +. Now, you can jump between the + and the ungrounded small terminal on the solenoid and the starter will run. If it starts, you cannot turn it off without the control, other than choking it to death or pulling plug wires off
