Starting a direct drive out of water?

I'm sure if I just read and read and read I would eventually find the answer to this. My forum search kung fu has revealed nothing to me on this, but it might be the clumsy search terms I'm using.

My question: Is there muffs or some other type of system to allow direct and/or v-drive systems the start/idle out of water?

I ask because someday I see myself buying one, and I'm really curious.

Oh, I guess I'm being a bit of a tease. I don't own a direct drive - mine's a VIP stern drive, something i'm familiar with.

I'm just asking in general - is there muffs or some sort of engine hose attachment to allow a direct drive boat (like a Moomba, Malibu, Tige, etc) to start up out of water (for troubleshooting, warmup, etc). But, maybe this is something that's manufacturer specific - I hadn't thought of that before.

However, here's something I'm currently jonesing after, if you really need some sexy pics :D

I fell in love with Moombas last year and someday, somehow, one will be mine.

There is a thing that looks like a toilet plunger that you put under the boat intake and hook a hose to. It has an adjustable handle for height and just sits on the ground with the plunger part against the water inlet on the hull. I was at the shop oops! shares with a mechanic and I found it on a shelf and had to ask about the fancy aluminum toilet plunger he had. With half the patch shut down, me included, there should be some great deals on toys this fall. If you are still working you might get one sooner than you think.

Yes you should be able to hook up an out of water source to it.

I've seen a couple of valves teed into the suction hose to supply water while the boat is out of the water. Think however that the plunger set up may work the best.

That device is marketed as the "Fake-a-Lake". Google it.
