Glad that got rid of that mullett retard.

Something good will turn up as I wouldn't even trust that noodles would even pay you.

The FedEx deal was supposed to be through the guy i decided not to drive for.He may have been just making that up to get me to come on board with them.

The place that called me today hauls only US mail. They have over 300 trucks and pay by the hour. The longest run is just out over night, swap trailers and head back.
They called back just before 5 this evening to tell me they already done the FBI back ground and all the other checks and i passed it all.
I go up to their corporate office in Virginia for orientation Monday.
They pay gas and hotel and food for the day.

GARY- the mail gig is a pretty good one. If it one like a buddy of mine has. He goes from Denver CO to Salinas KS spends the night in a hotel and returns the next day. Hotel and per diem paid for by the company. So he basically is making three trips and then has 2 days off.
Glad to hear things worked out better for you. If you would have taken the other job then this opportunity would have passed by.

Good luck Gary!

Sounds like passing on Mullet Man was a good choice. I know a couple guys who run mail, pretty darn good gig if you don't want to be away for long hauls, they run hard, short , and fast.

Kinda funny that i turned down one job and got a call for another the same day!
I think i will be much more happy with the mail gig.
Some routes are home the same day some are out 1 night.
They said plenty of overtime between now and Christmas so it should be some hefty pay checks..
I like the idea of hourly pay instead of by the mile.
This company has been going for 27 years and sound very professional.
The trucks are newer model Volvo and International.I have seen them on the road and they look to be well maintained.

I'm supposed to talk to them today to get more details about benefits, uniforms and all that kind of stuff.

The only problem I see is if you have to drive mountain roads in bad winter weather. Seeing that you are in NC where ice storms and snow are common. Looks like short runs in the Eastern part wouldn't be as bad as the central and west though.

As far as winter driving...I used to run the North West and having to chain up for the big hills...Snow is not a big problem
Now the ice is another matter but i can deal with it.;)

Congrats on the turning down a job from a rude boss and picking up a sweeter gig the same day! Good on ya! Overtime should be sweet carrying USPS packages over the holidays!

Wow, Gary, sounds good! Good thing mullet head showed his true colors early. I've driven by the mile and by the hour and, believe me, hourly is better. If the truck breaks, they're a litle more motivated to take care of it.

Re: Starting a new job.....again!(MAYBE NOT!!)

Thanks Art and Bassman!

They called first thing this morning to give me my hotel info and details on benefits.
100% company paid health and life insurance..:D
Great news after having NO health insurance for over a year!

I drive up Sunday, get a room and meet with them Monday morning for orientation, road test, pee test and physical.
About an 8 hour deal but they will add it to my first paycheck plus reimbursement for gas,ect..
So far they sound straight up.

Gary, I hope you make a point of calling the other employer and telling him in a quite factual manner why you did not take the job. Just let him know that good people will not stand for that treatment, and you can do better, and have already done better. People like him need to be told that they are the reason they have so many problems. Its his own fault he lost a top notch driver.

Best luck with the new job. Sounds like a winner!

Good idea on calling the other guy.I almost expected a hateful call from him today.I think i will let him stew on it a day or so and give him a call...lol!
I wish i had a recording of him last week so he could hear just how rude and nasty he really sounded.;)

Re: Starting a new job.....again!(MAYBE NOT!!)

you know it wasn't very long ago I would have totally agreed with calling him up and giving him a well deserved send off. BUT what would it help?
if his dad is his boss, you know where that goes. doesn't matter what he did daddy will take his side. we've all worked in those situations before.
besides realistically his dad probably told him to get some better drivers anyway he can. he lied about the run and the truck hoping to get you locked in. he knows he did that.
better to just walk away and hope his company fails due to his BS. if you want to tell someone why you're not there, tell other drivers who might fall for the line.

Hey Gary, been following your roll-o-coaster ride.:eek: I had the same initial thought Jay Marrell did. Any how glad it all seems to be working out for you. Good luck. And thanks for the ride:p;):D

Actually twice I had to make complaints about an employees lack of performance with companies I deal with. One in particular you have read about from my posts on the repower project. I learned from talking to the secretary that "Dad" owns the business. The bottom line is Dad is aware that his son is screwing up. Dad told the secretary to get me whatever was promised, regardless of what his son said. He was fully aware of the problem and spent about 20 minutes on the phone with me explaining (complaining) about what a F/U his son is. He was appreciative to hear from a repeat customer, especially one that he dealt with one-on-one in the past.

I got what I wanted, Junior is a loser, and Dad probably gave him a load of S**T because of the "matter of fact" way I told him how his son is ruining their reputation with me. No yelling, no cussing, just the facts. They also have a cut & paste of my iboats review of them back when I bought my first outboard from them on their website. So whenever I call, I make a point of telling them I am the guy they are quoting in their references, and things will be different if all does not go well from this point forward. Things were good in the past, but now a complete paperwork disaster. Accessories ordered and promised were not included, follow up after talking to Dad showed they never had the parts, etc. All was worked out, I got credited for all accessories they did not have on hand, and they shipped for free the accessories they did have. So I am pleased, but I think that Junior is a complete F/U. Apparently, he does not take phone orders well. Next time (if there is a next time, EVERYTHING will be in writing). Hope he does not get ownership of the company.

Back to your situation, I believe it is worth the call. If his father gives you crap, just hang up. If not, you will help the old man realize how his son is running his company into the ground and giving them a bad name amongst drivers, the very people they wish to employ.

Either way, you don't lose.

Good luck.
