1976 Johnson 85hp V4

Went out this morning to put her away for the winter and she won't start. You turn the key and the Solenoid clicks hard, but no starter. I jump some power straight to the starter and it spins counter-clockwise (backwards?).

Batery is wired properly and fully charged. Choke and trim work ok. Started fine when it was parked.

Re: Starting issue

You have a bad connection or cable in the high current circuit for the starter, Jason, or maybe a bad solenoid. My bet is on the battery ground cable to engine block connection, but it could well be one of the others.

The "no start" FAQ covers troubleshooting the starter circuit.

Good luck. :)
