Hey Fellas,

My brother and I just bought a small bought this summer with a 35 hp johnson on the back. Mice got into the engine soo we had to replace the ignition system on the motor. The plugs spark now, after 700 dollars of repairs. After we repaired the ignition, it ran great for 3 days and now is having starting problems. The electric start motor turns over but takes about ten minutes to fire up. Once she is in gear she will never die. However if you stop the boat and try to restart, it will not restart. Have any suggestions?

welcome aboard.

Ironically I'm having a similar problem with my '81 johnson 25hp.

You'll get better response if you post your compression and spark.
FYI. You can borrow a compression tester (free) at autozone or
Oreillys auto parts, probably other places as well.

edit: also, a spark tester is cheap, ~$7.

Good luck. -jasper

Thanx!

Ill try that and post the results as soon as possible. Until then do you think it has anything to do with the carb?

One more thing, When the motor is running in gear, at high rpms when it is almost maxed out it seems to lunge a little. almost like it is not getting enough gas. any ideas? of course then whwn we stop to check it out it will not start. It does not like to idle in nuetral as well. once it starts we throw it in gear immediatly.

anyones help would be appreciated

If compression and spark is ok, it sounds like it is time to overhaul your carb.
