starting motor when cold

read another thread for a 1990 rude 115 for cold start,with a primer..

I have the same problem with 1979 rude 140 w/ primer,is it still turn key on and push in for a 8 count then start??

I have finally gotten my 88spl to start and stay on the first turn of the key. This is my procedure.
1. switch to battery 2 (deep cycle)
2. pump bulb till hard
3. turn key to on position
4. push in primer 8 times (not 8 seconds)
5. turn over and it will stay on
6. switch to batteries 1 and 2
