starting o/b after sitting for 3 + years, help

Evinrude 35hp, 1979 outboard . . . this engine has been sitting for roughly 3 years without starting . . . what should I do to try and get this thing rolling ?. . . I'm ready to fish !

Well some more info would be in order as how much gas was left in the motor etc. But to tell you the truth,Pull the plugs and spray some lube in there to help unsease any rings that might be stuck. Would rebuild carbs , check compression on engine. Replace water pump impeller.<br />This is just some of the stuff you need to do.

If it was prepared for storage correctly, put gas in it and start it up.<br /><br />Otherwise, do what Spinner. . . says: Replace the impeller, clean the carbs and fuel pump, lubricate the crankcase and cylinders. Then start her up.<br /><br />Good luck.

Wouldn't hurt to also check the oil in the gearcase.
