I dont know too much about this but. You just changed water pump. Could it be in gear and the safety-neutral switch wont let you start it? Just a thought. Hope that helps.

jlw, your neutral safety switch is located in the control box - it shuts off power to the keyswitch; if that switch is open, the starter won't even spin.

Thanks for the help. Took it too a guy who does marine repair on the side and found the stator to be no good. So I'll get a new one and try again.
