Starting problem caused by old VRO?

I have a 1990 90 hp Johnson. If it's been sitting for a day or more, it takes 30 secs or more to start (after I prime the bulb hard). If I stop, then start again 1 hr later, it starts right away. Once started, it runs flawlessly from idle to WOT. No stalls, or hesitation.

Sometimes, I get a no oil warning (beeps every sec) after I start, it goes away after I revv it up.

Just had a shop overhaul the carbs. Just replaced all fuel lines and tightened the connections.

I suspect that because the VRO is old, the crankcase vacuum during starting is too weak to drive the fuel pump properly, but when running, the vacuum is strong enough.

Any opinions on this?

Do you hold the key pressed in while cranking? If not, try it.

If the fuel side of the OMS pump was bad, you wouldn't get any decent WOT performance.

Most older motors that I've run have mostly reacted as does yours, and I believe it takes a few seconds to get the oil pumped back up to the pump after sitting. Personally, I just disconnect the oil pump, but thats just my opinion.
Check your plugs regularly, they will give you alot of info on running lean or rich, or getting no fuel.....
