Hi,
I have a 60hp Evinrude outboard, manufactured approximately 1984. The model number is E60ELCIA and the serial is B010892. The problem is that it will not start by turning the ignition over via the key. I have taken one spark plug out and left one in and it starts on the key straight away, obviously firsing only on one cylinder. I have vice-versa'd this and it starts on the other cylinder but will not start with both spark plugs in place. It turn over and starts first time, every time, using hand pull starter. Is this because of the way the ignition is wired up or is it basically the bushes in the starter motor unable to cope with the load of having both plugs in place?
Any advice would be gratefully received as this is a new engine to me and each trip is becoming a headache!
Many Thanks
Tony

Re: Starting problem on Evin 60hp

That is a 1981 engine, Tony.

Sounds like the starter isn't getting enough current.

Check the battery for full charge (12.6V)

Disconnect and clean all connections from the battery to the starter motor and then back from the block to the battery.

Let us know what happens, and good luck. :)
