Well the motor I have, a 77 evinrude 35753h, I finally got everything hooked up , changed the plugs and have attempted to start. It will run for about 1-2 seconds, then shut off. It will do it again, and again, and again. Last night, I got it to stay running barely, and it almost seemed like it was idling too low.. Not sure though. Could it be the carb? If so, does anyone have a link or detailed instructions? Cna it be cleaned on the motor? Thanks for any help.

Must remove the carb and dismantle it per the manual. Dont use the so called spray carb cleaner .It can damage parts. Use the Carb Kit from the makers of Gunk products. Follow the instructions. Can be obtained from Advance Auto. I have used this for several years on many motors and it works.

Have you tried opening the throttle a little bit? My 35 starts hard cold w/o the throttle cracked open a little and the choke closed.

Well, I got it started, but the starting solenoid has been "clicking" then about every third time, it would engage the starter. Well after I got it running a bit, it will not "click" or do anything. I jumped the solenoid, and the starter would engage. Any recomendations on where to get a new solenoid?

Ok, after searching, and reading this post, it looks like it may the saftey switch. I am getting 12volts at both white wires. It talks in there about grounding the saftey switch. How would I ground it? Thanks..

Alright, I am wrong again. It was the throttle advanced too far, but the solenoid is still doing the "clicking". Is there another way to test it?
