Greetings! Looking for direction regarding my 1983 Mercruiser 470, S/N #6304569 engine & S/N #6339973 stern drive.
Has only 40 hrs. on her (only confirmed visually as every component is cleaner with least wear & tear I have ever seen in any boat, regardless of year).
So, new starting & deep-cycle batteries good, coil spark to dist. is there, I gaped & installed new plugs (getting spark on all four), emptied & cleaned fuel tank, new fuel separator, no blockage in fuel lines from tank to pump, removed & cleaned fuel pump (except arm & diaphragm) checked check valves after cleaning and seem to be working, reinstalled, output fuel line to carb is clear, removed and cleaned & reassembled Rochester 2 barrel carb and reinstalled, engine turns over with rotor pointing at number one timing alignment with timing mark on block, but...
...PROBLEM is fuel pump will not draw or pump fuel to the output of pump up to carborator !?!? Now what???
She starts for a second after spraying starting fluid in carb throat. Tried line from external tank feeding pump but nothing, no fuel to pump...why? Pump just done? Or what? Should I rebuild with a kit or replace with an electric pump?
I apologize if I have included TMI. I have to admit I am a newbie here and a newbie in my mechanical adventures at 61 years, if you will
.
Thank you in advance!
