Re: Starting!!

My understanding of electric chokes is that they are not engine temperature dependent. When you turn the key to the "on" position, the choke is energized and starts of closed, then slowly opens as the bimetal in the wound spring in the choke heats up. The electric choke would not know the temp. of the engine. If you put the key in the "on" position, the choke plate should open after a while, even if the engine did not start. Mechanical chokes get temp. info from intake manifold temperature and could be affected by a stuck open themostat.

Yes you are correct - my error :( OP still has to fix that cooling system though.
After that, I guess turn the ignition on and see if the choke opens, then fix the fuel mixture.

Re: Starting!!

The only time that i see the chock opening right up is when the throttle is full ahead. My engine only get up to 100 degrees.

Choke fully open at WOT is correct - but it should also be open at lower throttle settings once everything is warmed up. You need to confirm that the electric choke is working/adjusted correctly.
With the engine cold, the choke plate should be closed. Push down on one side of the plate- it should start to open with little resistance. If you feel any spring resistance at all then adjust the choke coil spring so that the plate just closes. Then turn on the ignition ( do not start the engine) and wait a minute or two. The choke should start to open. If it doesn't move then check electrical contacts - make sure ground connection is good. If still not working then probably needs new thermostatic coil spring.

Rice lake is on the Trent Severn waterway, just east of Peterborough. I'm also retired - nothing much to do and all day to do it! I love it :)
Hope you get your problems sorted.

Re: Starting!!

Sorry not getting back. After i got my boat back from the doctor this is what they had done to get it running. First they replace the automatic chock, there wasn;t any thermostat, changed the plugs. Now runs like a deer.
