Re: State of the Union Address

Just like the Dems - they put a half wit, SF radical liberal wacko with eyes as big a saucers and a fake, forced smile to launch a petty partisan attack and call for us to put our national security in the hands of other nations. Clearly she did not get the memo on how bad that crap sold in Iowa.

"We know how to protect you." Ya right lady, you've done a marvelous job! I think I am going to be sick!!!!

Now the bookend dimwit is blaming Bush for the cost of college and health care! These people have no shame!

Ah Crap!.... Now I need a new TV...

Mine blew up from all the bull-puckey that was spewed forth by GW......

Keep on driving that wedge in, George.. Divide up the country a little more, will ya... The country simply can not sustain 4 more years of Bush... Economy is getting better? Where, and for whom? Certainly can't prove it by me...

And then, the response from my fellow democrats.. PUKE!... Lost causes... I give up on em'..

Yup...The old tv just could'nt take it no more and it just up and went bzzzzzzzzzz-POOF!(puff of smoke)..

Actually, I'm going to do my part to help stimulate the economy... Got some investments in mind..... I'm thinking canned food, bottled water, shotguns, and lotsa ammo... I figure after 4 more years of GW, we'll all need that stuff.. May have to defend us from ourselves..

Well.....I would have liked to hear a little more on how to make health care a little more easy on the pocket book for the every day working guy that carries most of the burden of paying for the economy of the nation.

And just a little more on makin' it easier for the same guy to pay tuition for his kids to get into school.

Can't have everything I guess.

Ok, I'll add my 2 cents.

Yes, I listened to it. Not much new. Same o-same o.

Except for this marriage thing. Not that it's new, but what business does the government have in telling us what is acceptable and unacceptable behavior in consenting adults? I thought conservatives wanted less intrusion into a person's private life, and how much more intrusion is that?

I know lots of gay people in committed relationships, that contribute to society and pay their taxes, and why in the world should the government overtly discriminate against these people?

All they want to do is to join the mainstream of American life. What could possibly be threatening in that? And why in the world would anyone in America support a constitutional amendment to guarantee unequal treatment to a significant segment of the population? Sure does not sound like America to me.

The rest of the speech for the most part, was just a rehash of everything else--if you liked him before, you like him now-if you didn't like him before, you don't like him now.

I do agree that the Democratic response was pretty lame. I'm hoping that the candidates the dems pick will be a fair bit more articulate, as they certainly have a better message than what was portrayed by Pelosi and Daschle.

Well, as PW said, I still agree with him on what I agreed with him on before and I still disagree on the things I disagreed with before.

I see no basis of justice, liberty or freedom in the locking out of Gay people from American mainstream life. What's the payoff except to cater to the bigotry of homophobes?? No payoff at all, folks.

On the other hand, the opposition offers nothing I agree with. Nothing.

Bottom line? Four more years.

Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your politiks (sic)), I tend to agree that you're right, JB. Can't see the Dems putting up anyone any better than who's in there now.
Nobody, and that goes for everybody, lives up to their campaign promises. And until the American people finally stand up and demand answers for (you insert the national problem here), nothing of great importance will be accomplished. Too many distractions for the leaders, too many special interest groups, too much pay for politicians for what we're getting in return... I could go on but won't.
Apathy runs rampant in this country, but who cares?!

I rather listen to what a player on the field has to say anytime rather than somebody in the stands.

I think we should just have every president serve one eight year term. Then we'd only have to listen to the wanna-bees once every eight years.

All I can say is this.
He talked a long time but did not say enough.
Talked about this and that but then just left it there without telling the American people how he was going to acomplish it.

Americans are wanting more answers this morning I'm sure.
IMO.

It was about what I expected, and he used the
opportunity well to jump start his platform
for the next election. I do like his stand to
support the tradition and definition of marriage.
The man has principals. It doesn't sound like
he will erode them just for the gay vote.
I would say he gives our children a chance at
preserving some morality at least for awhile
anyway.
Some just don't understand what acceptance of
gay marriage really means to the fabric of family
life, and what other changes will follow.

Re: State of the Union Address

They did a focus group on MSNBC of people who came into the room non-committed but tended to lean left. There is one thing even those that disliked him agreed was true, and that was the line "America's word now have meaning abroad."

Like it or not, the world and every despot and terrorist knows, when this man says something he means it. That is unprecedented and priceless in my book. Just the fact he sits in that office makes us safer. Our enemies fear him.

As for gay marriage. The issue is not unequal treatment. Like it or not "marriage" is for the most part a religious sacrament - a holy sacrament. Nearly all religions view homosexual activity as a sin. Therefore, gay marriage offends the majority of Americans. If you call it gay union or domestic partnership, etc, it offends fewer people. You can not change the definition of a word that has meant one thing throughout human history and not expect to offend people.

The President's point was more that the issue should not be decided by unelected judges but instead must be decided by the people and their elected officials. He warned them that if they continue to legislate from the bench and change the meaning of state constitutions, some older than the country itself, that he will be forced to take the constitutional route.

I will just point out, that the liberal hero Bill Clinton, is the guy who signed the Defense of Marriage Act which says the full faith clause of the constitution does not apply to gay marriage.

Plywoody,
For once I think I agree with you. I like George W. But he's not perfect. For one thing he is a terrible speaker. It's not what he says, it's how he says it. I know he can't help it but he carries a definite smirk on his face when he speaks publicly.

I also disagree with the ban on Gay marriage. I don't believe this will have any negative effect on the "fabric" or marriage in the U.S. Since when does the government have a significant influence over personal relationships? I didn't marry my wife for a tax break. Yes, GW is not pandering to the Gay interest, he pandering to the religeous right. I have yet to hear one non-religeous argument against gay marriage.

I thought the demos response was pitiful. So bad, in fact, that it's scary. I think they are in real trouble. This is bad news even for conservatives like me. I may be a republican, but i still believe in the two party system. If you let any one party dominate this country we're all in trouble.

This may sound absurd, but I believe the best thing the Democratic party could do at this point would be to privately conceed a defeat in 2004, proclaim their support the war in Iraq, and other GW policies. I believe this would have the effect of persuading many mainstream americans that the demos are "on-board" and maybe not so bad after all. It may even save them in 2008. If GW were to adopt any liberal policy today, the Democratic party would oppose that policy.

My two cents...(well maybe a quarter ;) )

v.good point on the value of the world taking what
GW says seriously Ralph! mean what u say, say what
u mean... MY fav. attribute :D
he certainly is not the slickest public speaker
and he appears a bit akward at times to me, but
it's not what you say, it's what u do in the end
right? I'll take results over a smooth talker
anyday!
as 4 gay marriage's, they should allow these americans
the legal right to file taxes as a couple and have the
same community property rights under the law.
many states have such community property laws
currently in effect now.
seems like there should be a way to let them do
simple things like be eligible for insurance as
a family member without requiring a legal marriage.
opposed to legalizing, but a little common sense
on the issue would remove the need to be titled
legally as "married"
