Stator compatibility

I have a 1986 125hp Force. I know my stator will work on most 3 and 4 cylinder engines with terminal strip style ignition systems. My question is will a 150hp 5 cylinder stator work on my engine?

Thanks

Re: Stator compatibility

That's a definite maybe! LOL

Actually: It probably will as there are three separate circuits serving five cylinders. So, use the two circuits that each serve two cylinders and either leave the third open or use it as an ac source--worst that could happen is that you burn out the third windings--but you are not using them anyway. If you get the stator cheap--like for nothing-- then it is worth the try.

Re: Stator compatibility

If I am not using the 3rd circuit, should I just cut off the connectors and heat shrink them closed? Also the other 2 circuits that I need to use are the ones with the double wires coming out close together? Last, does it matter which cylinder these wires go to?

Thanks Frank
