Stator ID on 1985 marine v200 9 or 16 amp

I've isolated my issue to the stator being the culprit for loss of hi rpm. Engine runs smooth up to 3500 rpm and won't go any higher.
I disconnected the rectifier and wot pegs at 5800 rpm, runs smooth as silk without rectifier. I replaced the rectifier with a new one. Tested the new rectifier before installation with a dvm (Fluke 77 diode test) and had .5 ohms on both inputs to the rectifier. Diodes tested good (1-way continuity, reversed leads and no continuity) Battery is brand new and fully charged. I looked up my serial #6626027, and found 2 different stators that were used for several years. 1 was a 9 amp stator, the other was a 16 amp stator. Does anyone know how to positively ID which I should use? I'm running the boat without the rectifier connected and plan to replace switchboxes, stator and trigger if needed. I don't believe, the trigger is bad since it runs great without the rectifier but I haven't pulled the flywheel to confirm. Wanted to order all the parts at once and spend a rainy weekend in the shop.

Any thoughts or advice on which way to go with this motor - 9 or 16 mp, upgrade to a voltage regulated system, etc?

Thanks all.

no reg will be a 9 amp.. w/reg can be one of two 16 amp.. stator with 1/2" thick lamination will be A32.. with 5/8" will be A35

rec is same with any 9/16 amp stator.............ya gotta run one...

not so with tha reg ona 16.. know lottsa folks that don't run a reg with a 16 amp...

Thanks Dukedog.
does the laminate thickness determine the stator I need or would either one work?

been way to long ta remember for sure but can think of only one reason why it "might" make a difference.. that would be tha flywheel.. seems like there are three flywheels pre 40 amp stuff.. a light (kinda cream) one that was 9 amp.. then a red and an army (olive drab) green that are tha 16's best i remember... best i can do with what cells i got left!

Gotcha. I've got a little CRS (Can't Remember Shiite) myself. Sounds like I'll have to pull the flywheel and take a peek.
I bought this used 5 years ago and have had a few issues with low oil alarm & idle stabilizer module wiring after a blown head gasket.
A couple of wires got a little toasty and corrosion probably worked it's way up to the stator.

I appreciate your input.

I'll close this thread unless you want info after I find the right parts.
