I need another stator for my 1988 70 hp Evinrude.
teh factory site lists only one year that interchanges for the 1988 70 hp... you can usually type in the part number and it will tell you have many models and years of other motors it will fit.

well this stator only fits 1988 supposedly.
here on Iboats they sell stators made by CDI

they list a stator for my motor s that covers 1979-1988

thats 10 years, and they say it replces seven different OEM stators

my question is...will thos other years stators from used 70 hp motors fit my motor?

or is the CDI SPECIALLY DESIGNED to work on all those motors>?

Id like to pick up a used stator locally if i can first, instead of spending $200 on a new one

thanks

Re: stator interchangablility between years

Don't know if this will help, but I actually have the stator and timing trigger from a 1989 60hp Evinrude installed and running on my 1978 70hp Johnson. The parts fit perfectly on my motor. The only problem is making sure the connectors from the stator match those of the ignition module. In my case I bought the entire ignition system, so my only problem was installing the new-to-me ignition bracket on my motor. Funny thing was that the mounting bosses for the bracket were already cast and even threaded on my crankcase even though they were not in use in 1978.

I suspect the CDI part comes with only the connector pins on the end of the stator cable that you then install into your original stator connector housing. Only guessing at this. The key to fitting is then the P/N of the ignition module and what the connector for the stator looks like.

So yes the parts from a whole bunch of years will fit and function, but just need to be able to match up connectors.
