stator magnet question???

Hi to all!.... Question; I have a 49hp Merc serial#5991367 I think it is about a 1979. The problem is when it was left outside the magnets rusted inside the flywheel and when I broke the engine loose to try to turn it over the magnets came off and a couple shattered. Now do I buy one used ( need to find a local marine junkyard in Suffolk County 11764). Or can I get the magnets and epoxy them on myself? I heard the polarity has to be correct (ie. North/South)` The motor otherwise ran great , I got it from a friend complete w/ctrls and all manuals. Thankyou.

In my opinion, the best thing I think to do is to get another flywheel. I like ebay.

I have never seen magnets separate for sale and if you can find a used flywheel with good magnets, I would just use the whole flywheel assembly.

Yeah, thanks that's kinda what I was thinking, I will see if I can get a response on the wanted listing on ebay, thanks for the reply, much appreciated!
