stator or ecu?

i cant get a mechanic out for a couple of weeks as my boat is in the water. im having all kinds of crazy things going on with my 95' carb 225! first it was running fine to start with but then after a few hours it would crap out and then just stall. then last week it wouldnt run at all one day and ran great the next. now it will run so-so with number one coil unplugged but die off when i plug the coil/ cdm back into the harness. is the stator gone and doing all of this crazy stuff????

Have you replaced the fuel pump diaphram? Have you checked the TPS sensor?Have you checked spark on all cylinders as you could have a bad cdm module shorting out other cylinders also.

I had a similliar problem on my 95 mariner 150, ended up replacing the trigger and stator, after posting here with similar recomendation, then having my mechanic diagnosis it as well,,$750.00 for my guy to do it.
Parts on outboardignition.com are around $450.00 with a 2 year warranty.

okay, the plot thickens. pulled the intake and there was a boken reed on number one. replaced the reed, put back together and here's whats happening now. if i plug in number three coil the motor sputters, buzzer sounds short when its cutting out and then stalls. when i unplug number three the motor runs on the other five cylinders w/out cutting off and stalling and no buzzer. tried another coil and it does the same thing. replaced the temp sensor, crank sensor and also tried another guys ecm. is it the stator? thought maybe the piece of reed had gotten into number three and was causing the problem when it tried to fire but it stumbles and cuts out with number three plugged in and the plug wire off of the plug of course the flounder are red-hot now at the chesapeake bay bridge tunnel thanks in advance guys!!

update--- on friday i bought new cdms via cdI, both of them were crap. found another boat with the same engine here and borrowed 2 coils, the thing has never ran better! sooo, the question is where do iget the best deal on OEM coils? thanks again for all of your input
