What should the stator output be when you check across both yellow wires? I am getting 16VAC @ idle and 18VAC @1500 rpms. The output on the rectifier (new) is 13.5 VDC @ Idle and 14.3 VDC @ 1500 rpms. Wonder what it would be @ 4500? Stator ohms out @ 1.5 both cold and warm and open from lead to ground (book says thats good). Maybe I am looking for ghosts but I am worried about going over the 16 volt max on the powerpack. After losing one pack but it never hurts to ask.

TIA

Russ In Texas

Re: Stator Output??

Sounds good to me taking into account a margin of error in the instrument you are using to obtain the reading.Does your boat have an onboard volt meter. If not I'd get one installed. Then you'll know how its charging while underway.By the way, what engine hp and year are we discussing?

Re: Stator Output??

OOPs sorry ob it's a 1972 100 hp Johnson. Yes the boat has an onboard volt meter I installed new for that purpose and it agrees relativily close to the multimeter. The multimeter is calibrated to NIST standards so I feel that it is pretty accurate. My first CDI pack lasted about an hour so I want to try make sure I don't get stranded again. It maybe overkill but I guess it's the avaition in me that wants to find a reason for the first failure. Can you think of anything else I should check? I have meticulously cleaned every connection in the electrical system, have a new 80 amp/hour battery etc.
Thanks for the quick reply. Oh by the way I'm just across the bay from you in AP. I work in Corpus just off Holly road and Greenwood.

Russ In Texas
