my stator is shot .a new one from merc is 300.00 plus .the merc part # is 3985454a21 .found a stator for about 150.00 bucks with a part # of 1745454k1, can i assume this is a aftermarket stator :) for being so cheap? what is the quality of the aftermarket ones? reason being i know a merc dealer mechanic and he said they tried the aftermarket ones and had nothing but trouble so they went back to the factory merc ones.remember this guy is a friend and not just trying to sell me a merc one.anyone have any comments ? thanks.

Re: stator prices

That is up to you! I would not feel right to tell you one way or the other. On some things you have no choice but to use aftermarket parts. Myself I would take your friend's advice. $300 is better than $150 + $300 if you had A problem with the aftermarket one.

Re: stator prices

From what I have been told the cheaper priced ones might be rebuilt stators. I have found going with the factory parts works best in the long run...yes they are more expensive but it's worth it.

Correct CDI/Rapair is the only way to go, way better components then Mercury products for less money.

Which motor do you have?
How do know your stator is bad.
Have you DVA tested the stator, trigger, coils, and the stop circuit?
