Agreed---Switchbox is similar to a light bulb.------They work , work , work until one day they go----PHOOOFF ----and don't work anymore.----If your mechanic can tell it is failing he has options for a better paying career.

Gee, I am not sure how a mechanic can tell the switchbox is on it's way out. They are one piece and potted with epoxy. If the epoxy melted out, that would be a sign, but other than that, he would need XRay eyes.
He said it was falling apart, I don't see that it is so do you think it would be the trigger

Sounds like trigger died....
When it was running at idle it was smooth no misses it was when under load it started to jerk and stall, if I throttled down it would run smooth again.

If you have no spark use the testing spec to see if trigger or switchbox. The wiring rots inside the trigger sleeve and as it rotates it can loose connection.
