stator test

I performed a stator test on my 175 evinrude outboard with a ohm meter. The book said that i should have between 0.05-0.19 reading on a 35 amp charging system. The reading i get and i do have my ohm meter set on its lowest setting is 1.5 about where it says a 6 amp system stator should read. Should i put much faith in this reading or is it telling me i have a bad stator?
Any help on this matter would be much appreciated.:)

Re: stator test

The best test of a stator for charging (not ignition) is to measure its AC voltage to the rectifier. The AC pair is typically yellow and not having a shop manual for your motor, I would guess you should see AC voltage >16 to 18 VAC. Also, a very simple test for charging is to measure DC voltage across the battery terminals with motor at a fast idle. Should see DC > 13 VDC for sure.

Re: stator test

Its very hard to accurately read ohms that low unless you have a meter that you can adjust to compensate for the resistance in the meter's leads.
