Re: Steam? Exhaust? Normal?

I am having this exact problem on a 1982 Mercury 70. I did not find any cracks in the baffle plate. But i will order one in case I am missing something. Where did you order it from?

You can probably find the gaskets here on iboats. But for the actual baffle, I went to www.crowleymarine.com. They have a pretty good website with clear diagrams.

Ripped down the power head and found a broken upper water tube grommet (hard plastic not rubber). Could this cause my steam issue?photo.JPG

Re: Steam? Exhaust? Normal?

It would significantly reduce the water pressure through the engine allowing less water flow which would heat up faster and remain in the block longer than it otherwise would
