i put gas in the tank and after it sat for awhile the pressure built up and it started to leak out of the quick connect at the tank so i took off the lid and released the pressure so then i tightened the cap and hooked it to the motor i let it sit for about 10 minutes it did not leak but it sure had a lot of pressure built up in the tank when i took off the cap again can some one tell me if that is normal does the old steel gas tanks have a pressure release like a rad at a certain pressure or is the vent on the cap plugged i didn't try to start the motor with all that pressure i was afraid to, not sure what would happen thanks

Turn the small knob on the cap ccw and the pressure should release, this is the tank vent and should be open when you're going to run the motor. There is no automatic pressure release.

Like Ensign said, there should be a manual vent, most often a screw knob on the cap or on the tank. Unscreew it and it will vent. Screw it back in when transporting.
