Steel Tank Storage?

I presently have two OMC 6.5 gallon steel tanks that I am not using. Storing them full of gas is not an option, but I don't really know what to do to them to prevent rust forming on the inside.
1. Put a pint of oil in them and try to get the interior coated with it?
2. Spray OMC engine fogging oil in them?
3. Spray WD40 inside?
4. Get a sack of dessicant, hang it in the tank and tape all the openings?
Any suggestions?

Charles

1 or 2, and close them up tight. my preference is #1.

As I look at my post, I wonder why I didn't consider 1 and 2. Seems like they should be compatible.
Charles

A pint of oil and some fogging oil sprayed inside is not going to stop rust from forming in the long term (oil is just going to run to the bottom of the tank).
This is a big problem with motorcycles that have sat unused for a long time. If you can't leave them full of gas or gas/oil mix, why not fill them with diesel or kerosene?

JDK, your answer was so simple, yet such a good idea. Wish I'd thought of it! :D
