Hi guys,
Definitely not a boat mechanics pro here - like, I know the difference between my motor and a fender. I'm having trouble describing what's going on so I'll do my best, and use a photo
.
Steering play issue on a Volvo Penta 3.0 with SX outdrive. Manageable at higher speeds, super annoying at idle speed. I checked other posts and did some tests, the cable seems responsive at the helm. If you move the outdrive it goes a few inches before the wheel moves. So, I've narrowed it to the power steering ram. Fluid is okay, connections are okay.
I posted a photo of the steering ram. See that collar stamped Volvo Penta? Look to the left of it, you can see how far it slides before engaging the steering ram. I think that's where the 'play' is.
Am I right? Is it worn or leaking? Any other comments? OR, am I way off base and is it something completely different?
Thanks for reading!
Steve
