Greetings,

I have a 1986 Yamaha 150 Pro V that is steered by a single cable system. The system is very stiff and steers very hard at idle. Almost impossible to turn when moving forward. Could this be a sign that the cable is wearing out?

I recently drove a boat with hydraulic steering and now I am spoiled. If I replace the cable steering with the same ,will I acheive the same results as hydraulic steering? Would I be able to convert to hydraulic steering? Any recommendations?

As always, a huge thanks to all that advise on this forum!!

Best regards

Brian

Re: Steering Advice

Disconnect cable at the motor to determine if hard steering is in cable or in motor pivot, then proceed to correct the problem area. A well-lubricated cable steering system normally works great, without the expense and complexity of hydraulic steering. Good Luck!
