I have noticed after replacing my engine that the lower unit turns more to starboard than to port. How can ajust this? I do not remember doing too much to the steering controls other than disconnect the control arm, and it was reattached exactly as I removed it (a single bolt)

With all my abilities, I should be able to figure out if he has a Mercruiser, OMC, Volvo, Yamaha or what ever else is out there.
Surly this thing can tell me if it's hydraulic or cable steering and if hydraulic if it is a balanced cylinder or not.
Maybe even what model and year the thing is.

Hmmmmmmmm, I think I'm getting something here. Canoe????, Nah, that can't be. Stupid ball, just never works any more.............

Re: Steering alignment

My guess is you have an 898 engine and drive. (It was not called an Alpha in 77, it's an 898 if it's still the original drive.)
Anyway, mounted on the inner transom shield is an aluminum tube that the steering cable attaches to. It's probably adjusted to far one way or the other. loosen the 2 big jam nuts on the tube and adjust it till the steering is equal both directions.
