Here are some pics of the bolts which bolt the steering arm to the dyna-float mounts under the powerhead.
These are the HEADS of the bolts which are basically holding the outboard to the swivel bracket and are being pulled on whenever the boat is accelerating or in forward motion, (tension, while the lower mounts are in compression).
I don't know how much longer these would have survived before being pulled thru the holes!
I had to remove the lower unit to be able to get my hoist into position. Removed the powerhead.
Had to cut off the nuts since they were rusted to hell, (under the powerhead but expose to the elements at the front opening in the lower cowl)
Couldn't get the bolts out because they hit the swivel bracket at the front where the tilt/trim main shaft is.
Had to unbolt the lower mounts and remove the mid-section.
Went from a complete and running motor to nothing but the swivel bracket and power tilt/trim left on the transom.
Started the project at 8am and finished at 5pm yesterday.
Fired her back up today and all is well...almost ready to splash her again!
(replacing the bilge pump and float switch, adding a second bilge pump and float switch, replacing the livewell pump...bunch of stuff but it's easy stuff compared to what I just went thru)
