I posted a thread a couple weeks ago about replacing my 800 stringer with a older unit. I took it to the lake yesterday and it worked well with the large exception that the steering was backwards. The boat the outdrive came off of was a tru-coarse steering and mine is power steering. I took the outdrive off and checked, when I turn my steering wheel clockwise, the steering gear on the intermediate turns counterclockwise. Can I simply replace the worm gear with the correct one?
The gear ratio on the drive must be different because I did try accelerating and got a lower top end than it had before. That's ok right? It was pretty freaky trying to steer backwards, I only drove it about 10 mins. but going back to the dock was challenging.
