Anybody know where to find one of these? My motor has only the single hole in the steering bracket. To attach my steering system , I am at a loss. The other motor I had , had two mounts on the corners of the steering bracket. I was reading there was a simplex bracket attachment made by OMC that mounts to that single hole but am unable to find one . I could probably rig something up but would rather not.

Re: steering bracket attachment

There is a common steering connector. What year and hp is your engine? This attached type fit most of the early models. Where to get one though? Not sure. You could try the dealer, the part # is listed. Or try a used outboard place.

Re: steering bracket attachment

Humble appologies for the bad ettiquite:

I have a '69 Johnson Electric start 33HP

Yes that is something like what I am looking for . On the other engine that was on the boat previously the steering bracket had like to stud mounts on the corners of the bracket . It was a '59 Johnson Super Sea horse 35 HP. It is now a parts engine and though I thought last night I could just hacksaw off the front of that steering bracket and attach it to the '69 I h ave ran into a problem in theory . The '59 sat further back in the splashwell where as the '69 sits further up and where the pullys come out it is a different angle. I'll try to post some pix soon to show what I mean . I cannot seem to find that many pictures of remote steering with cables and sheeves. This is pretty much all I like for having her on the water , can you believe that ????? Worked on her all winter too! I have hit a wall here.

Re: steering bracket attachment

Huh. I would have thought that a '69 33hp would be the same attachment as the '59 35hp. Can you post pics?

That's home made. Thats not the orignal hook up. See that hole in between where you have it conected? thats where it attaches to.

Re: steering bracket attachment

I suspected this . I was thinking about doing something like that with the '69 but it doesn't have as much "meat " to drill into . Other idea was to hacksaw off the just the straight piece of the 59' bracket and attach it . However something designed for this would be ideal . Can't seem to find it though anywhere. Wonder where everbodies getting there's around here. I will have to figure something out for sure as boats good to go and the motor is running so I wanna get it out on the water....haaaaaaaaaaaaa always with the little mundane details....story of my life!

Re: steering bracket attachment

TD I saw in an old post that you have had several boats set up with cable and pulley systems. In your photos you had at least two of the double pulley connectors. My question , where did you get 'em. I found one on ebay for a hundred bux!

Re: steering bracket attachment

check ebay, the $100 is not the right one. you can make one fairly easy. take a piece of 1 1/4 inch angle, 4 inches long on one side drill hole in center to bolt to motor, on the other on each end drill hole and mount the pulleys.

Dang... it's not rated for over 25hp... I was about to use one on my 35hp... Hmmm... I'll have to look into it...

Re: steering bracket attachment

yeah for 100 bux eek! Bought the whole engine for that ! I will go the angled stainless steel route . Thanks TD

BTW -says the pulleys are out of stock . Probably got to have em somewhere in my town. How big are those , I'd guess right at two inches .

Now any one got any advice on drilling out bolts? ex. what kinda bits to use and any other tips. I got the water pump housing off to replace the impellar and two small flat head screws torgued there heads off clean. Also unfortunately the main long bolt on the LU .

Another stupid question:

How do you attach the springs to the boat?
