Steering Cable Help

I was wondering if this piece pictured is all one piece the "housing" and the cable? Or if there is a way to remove the cable from that housing? I need to run the steering cable in a cable channel on the boat floor, and with the other end it's too long and stiff...i can't pull it out the end of the tube. Thanks

there should be a small hole on the side of the housing, where the black sheat enters the housing, you push a small rod, nail, etc. in there and turn the steering wheel and the cable will back out.

If there was no plastic sheath over the spiral wrapped cable end, you should get one on there ASAP. It prevents wires and stuff from getting entangled with the spiral as it goes in and out of the helm. Bad situation as it is right now.
