Steering cable on omc slickcraft

I just got a 72 omc slickcraft, the previous owner rigged the steering. They have a cable pulling off both sides of the out drive, I'm trying to figure out where the factory cable attached, I have only dealt with outboards, this is my first inboard. I will get some pictures tomorrow. Can anyone give me any ideas, I don't see where it would go

My guess is it had tru-course, or whatever OMC called it, 'n there ain't no parts available to fix it, so it's cobbed together like ya see,....
