I have a 14 ft aluminum boat with a 11 ft steering cable my helm is only about 6 ft from motor my question is if I use the 11ft cable and have it looped in a big loop under the floor will that ruin the cable or will that be ok?

No problem. Just be sure there are no sharp bends which will cause hard steering.

If you are buying a new cable, why not buy the right length?

yep no way in the world should you buy a too long cable just because you have one now.... read the manufacturers instructions for measuring and get the correct cable

GA I think the OP was saying he wanted to see if the old cable would work before buying a new one.

Yeah we had the steering further front before using the 11ft cable and we are remodeling the boat and money is tight we are eventually going to get the right size with taxes but been land bound for too long and need to get on water so wanted to know if we could use the old one. Thank you all for the help.
