Ya Ya Ya..I know..I can post in the Johnnyrude section.
But my fellow mob members are my go to guys.

In removing the 70hp Johnny yesterday, I came to a grinding halt with the steering cable.
Removed the pivot arm linkage.
Removed the 2 inch and half (?) lock nuts on the tube.
Spun the wheel hard to Starboard.
Cable goes back through but stops maybe 6 or 8 inches.
Do I need to disconnect some type of stop bolt under the helm for it to come through?
Do I just need to move the motor over to Port?

mine pulled free from the helm no problem, but would not pull out from the tube at all, and still won't. corroded so bad I thought they were one part. live and learn.

DAmn I hate it when that happens . Lots of oil and a block of wood .a used tilt tube might help to drive it thru the motor. Good luck. Pugetsound

It could be jammed/stuck in there but you almost always have to remove the outboard to get the steering cable out of the tube eh.

Thanks guys...I did whack it Sunday with a block of wood and a 2lb sledge (aka RBFH) she didnt budge.
I will try some carb cleaner solvent nd see if that removes some gunk..
Worst case scenario is I disconnect at the helm and drag the cable along with the motor.
When I need to replace (maybe NOW is a good idea huh?) I'll cut that be-aaaach outta there

Re: Steering cable removal help

To pull my cable I had to hoist the OB slowly and then pull the boat up a few inches. After that it was a slow slide off procedure.
No way I would have the space to pull the cable with the engine still mounted to the transom.
