I am in need of replacing the two steering cables on my 1986 Ranger 371v. I have read that in order to replace you need to remove the motor. Is this true and if it is can I use hydraulic crane? Where would I hook the chain to? Is their anything else I should know before I attempt this job I will be working with a 1990 Johnson GT 150

You just have to check and see. ON that Ranger you will probably have to lift the motor. Some setups don't require lifting the motor. Try to pull the old cables out of the motor. If you can get them out then you can get the new ones in.

Is there any place to rig the motor to lift it up?

Look under your cowling behind the flywheel. Some motor have a place to bolt on a lifting eye back there. l The lifting eye ooks like a horseshoe sorta.<br />Without that I run a chain from the top starter bolt to the top head bolt on the opposite side.
