steering cable for my 75 hp johnson has seized from sitting. I'm guessing back on the lower side near the motor. can't find any sizeable cracks in the housing. any thoughts on getting it freed up? starting some light soaking with liquid wrench.

First thing to do is to disconnect the steering and see if the motor turns freely on its own.

sorry should have mentioned. cable is already disconnected from the wheel and the motor has been off for quite a while, and both turn very easily.

Re: steering cable seized

Various techniques have been used to get oil under pressure to feed though the sleeve, and I have done it once. I think it is a waste of time because mine just bound up again the next winter. The replacement cables are just too easy to get and replace, and with very little work will last many many years.

Most cables have the part number stamped in the shield within a few feet of the end.

BTW, I pulled my old cable out with the new one tied to it to save time feeding it through the boat.
